Michigan special education rules and regulations are written to protect the child/parents rights according to the Federal law IDEA (Individual with Disabilities Act). At times some school districts do not understand the requirements for their provision of Special Education Services.
I am able to assist with parents’ understanding of:
- The requirements for the educational diagnosis of speech & language impaired (R340.1710)
- Appropriate IEP procedures:
- Who are the required attendees present (teacher, SLP, Administrator, parent(s) at the IEP meeting
- All parent concerns are added and addressed in the IEP paperwork
- Progress reports sent to parent each marking period by SLP written with objective data of progress, i.e. percentage of time, __ of ___ times, etc.
- Extended School year requirements:
- Based on progress toward goals
- Likelihood of losing skills over the summer break
- Data from holiday breaks
- Data from absence from school for illness
